The Mueller community is the product of an innovative, unprecedented collaboration between the City of Austin, its master developer Catellus Development Group and Mueller's neighbors and citizens throughout the region. With the assistance of some of the nation's best planners, consultants and other experts, Mueller has created a new model for urban infill redevelopment in Austin and throughout the U.S. That achievement has been recognized with prestigious professional honors and awards.

Charter Award, Congress for the New Urbanism, 2001
The Mueller redevelopment plan, crafted by ROMA Design Group, was one of 15 projects from throughout the world honored by the Congress for the New Urbanism with its very first Charter Awards — which have quickly become a gold standard for excellence in progressive planning and development. Charter Awards juror Harvey Gantt, celebrated for his achievements as mayor of Charlotte, NC, dubbed the Mueller master plan "a great example of a new neighborhood that is integrated with its surroundings."

James C. Howland Award for Municipal Enrichment, National League of Cities, 2005
The National League of Cities recognized Austin with its signature award, "given to those communities that have, through effective policies and thoughtful project planning, preserved and enriched a high quality of life in cities, towns and villages." The Mueller effort was recognized for its responsible and innovative financial structure, its effective community planning process, and its fruitful public/private partnership between the City of Austin and Catellus Development Group.
