Parade of Homes

Set your calendars for May 23 through June 7, 2009, when the Home Builders Association (HBA) of Greater Austin presents the 56th annual Parade of Homes™ tour at Mueller hosted by Catellus Development Group. This year’s Parade of Homes™, the first in Central Austin in decades, will be unlike any other as it focuses on ultra-green, ultra-urban homes from a group of exclusively local home builders: Bill Taute Homes, Cool River Custom Homes, Durrett Interests, The Muskin Company and Streetman Homes.

The official Parade of Homes™ tour allows visitors to check out the latest in architecture, interior decorating, landscape design and green-building features. These homes, starting at approximately $1 million, are anticipated to be the first in Central Texas to earn three energy efficiency ratings: (1) a five-star rating in the nationally recognized Austin Energy Green Building program, (2) LEED® certification from the U.S. Green Building Council and (3) green building silver level certification from the National Association of Home Builders. The homes on the tour will range from 3,200 – 3,700 square feet.

The Parade will be open Thursday – Tuesday weather permitting. Tickets will be $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and children ages 5-17, and free for children under age 5. For more information about tickets, parking and event features, visit www.AustinHomeBuilders.com.

Mueller Anniversary

10 years ago in May 1999, the last flight left Robert Mueller Municipal Airport and signified the closing of Austin’s first airport. The return flights landed at Austin Bergstrom International Airport and planning for how to reuse the 711 acres that was the former airport continued. Now, with over 20 years of planning and four years of construction, progress in Mueller can be widely seen. Over 500 homes are sold and over 3,000 employees call Mueller home. 75 acres of parks are completed and three historic structures still stand.
